Reiki is known worldwide for being a spiritual practice that helps relax the body and find peace. Among reiki benefits and effects, it can cure and prevent diseases by restoring the internal balance.

World Reiki Day is celebrated on August 15, honoring the b-day of the creator and pioneer of this well-known therapy.

153 years after its creation, we tell you everything about this Japanese technique that has already covered countless countries.

Who created reiki?

Mikao Usui, the teacher or sensei, was born on August 15, 1865, in Taniai, which currently corresponds to Miyamacho, Japan.

After a spiritual retreat on a hill, Usui managed to feel a healing ability. Upon returning home, he used that gift to heal his wife, as the story goes that she was very ill.

From that moment, it is said that it is also curative.

Usui did not want to keep this gift only for his family but decided that it should be accessible to everyone.

For this reason, in 1922, the teacher opened his first clinic in Tokyo, where he implemented reiki, and there were open seminars for all those who wanted to participate.

What is reiki treatment?

Reiki is part of alternative medicine. It is considered a spiritual practice that aims to transmit energy through the hands.

Some beliefs relate this type of practice to magic, but it is actually based on a technique that helps to relax the body and meditate.

The word can be separated into two and thus form a single meaning. REI stands for universal energy, while KI stands for vital energy.

Through meditation, relaxation, and the laying of the hands, the root of the problem can be reached.

Whatever its nature, both physical and emotional, thus allowing the behavior pattern that created the imbalance to be identified and healed.

Due to the great peace and tranquility that this technique transmits, it also generates other benefits such as expanding consciousness and greater concentration.

The World Health Organization WHO recognized reiki as a therapy. Complementary to traditional medicine and other psychological therapies.

It is important to clarify that anybody can receive this treatment. Being a different option to that proposed by traditional medicine, reiki, and curing diseases, is also used to prevent them.

A relaxed mind and body, with clear thoughts and without anxiety, are synonymous with a healthy mind and body.

This practice does not discriminate between pregnant women, young people, children, or older adults.

Chakras

reiki benefits effects

To understand more accurately what reiki consists of, we have to talk about the chakras.

The chakras are energy centers that connect the human being with the environment. They are energy centers that are in the body and interconnected with each other.

Each one of the 7 chakras acts on specific parts of the body.

The seven chakras:

  1. Root
  2. Sacrum
  3. Solar Plexus
  4. Heart
  5. Throat
  6. Third Eye
  7. Crown

According to this alternative therapy, being healthy and at peace will balance the chakras since thoughts and emotions are stabilized.

Reiki session: what it is and what it consists of

reiki benefits effects

A session lasts approximately 35 to 50 minutes, and the patient lies on a stretcher. As the ultimate goal is relaxation, soft music is played, and the atmosphere is scented with incense or some other aroma.

Then, the hands are placed on certain parts of the body so that the energy flows and, thus, renews it.

Many people experience various sensations during treatment: heaviness, lightness, crying. That is an excellent sign, which means that the energies move, achieving full relaxation to allow the desired harmony.

How to Reiki Yourself

The first thing to do is open the most important chakra to perform auto reiki, which is the cardio chakra. When you lay hands on this chakra, it will move the energies of the heart.

Before starting, you must position yourself in a comfortable position, preferably on the floor and with your back against the wall; begin with breathing exercises.

These exercises will make your breathing slow, thus making the energy channels open up so they can align.

Tricks to fall asleep fast

With a blank mind, try to follow the breathing and the heartbeats. Very slowly, as if your body weighed heavily on you, so much so that you couldn’t move.

Once you have been able to perform this step and hold it for a few minutes, the next thing is to bring your hand to your chest and slowly bring your fingers closer together.

Try to feel how, through the tip of your fingers, enters the energy that leaves the heart and expands throughout your hand. Then gently massage into all areas of the body where you want to perform auto reiki.

Reiki benefits and effects

Reiki benefits are extensive, and many people practice it. Because of its good results, it’s becoming increasingly popular all around the world.

No negative effects have been found, only positive ones.

This alternative therapy supports relaxation, finding peace, clarifying thoughts and emotions, healing diseases, and preventing them. We invite you to try it!
