Garcinia cambogia benefits go well beyond weight disorders. It’s a fruit native to Asia that is attributed to antibiotic and astringent properties. But primarily, it is said that it could contribute to weight loss.

Formerly called Garcinia Cambogia and now Garcinia gummi-gutta, the Malabar tamarind (another name for GC) is a fruit that, according to some research, could provide certain health benefits and, more specifically, in terms of weight-related problems.

Below we discuss the possible health benefits and slimming properties of this curious Asian fruit.

What is Garcinia Cambogia?

Again, this fruit originated in Asia, to which Ayurvedic medicine attributes antibiotic and astringent properties.

According to rodent studies, it contains citric acid, also present in lemons, oranges, and grapefruit, which has potential weight loss benefits.

However, its most valuable ingredient is Hydroxycitric acid (HCA), another form of citric acid with apparent capabilities to combat excess fat in the body.

The bark of this plant is very acidic, and, in some Southeast Asian countries, it is often consumed (even dried) as an ingredient in different types of curries.

At a gastronomic level, butter is made with the seeds of the fruit, which makes a good vegan alternative to the popular ghee or clarified butter.

Garcinia Cambogia Benefits

According to some hypotheses, this tropical fruit could contribute to:

  • Weight loss
  • Cardiovascular health, due to its antioxidant content
  • The increase of serotonin levels to improve mood
  • Reducing stomach acidity and relieving intestinal inflammation
  • Improved athlete performance through increased production of glycogen, which is the energy store of muscles

Would it help to lose weight?

Garcinia cambogia could prove to be an acceptable weight loss supplement for several reasons.

When eaten in its natural state, like any other fruit, it would have a good satiating effect due to its fiber content.

This, in turn, would help to avoid eating unhealthy foods between meals and regulate intestinal transit.

Because of its hydroxycitric acid (HCA) content, it can be useful for people who have an excessive appetite or tend to eat compulsively.

However, the nervous system would not be altered, as HCA is produced by blocking enzymes and increasing metabolism. Thus, body volume is reduced as fat reserves are burned.

Additionally, it is considered that the consumption of Garcinia -within a balanced diet- can contribute to the process of serotonin secretion, known as the “happiness hormone.”

For all these reasons, some researchers consider that Garcinia cambogia could be a beneficial fruit for human health.

How to take Garcinia Cambogia for weight loss?

Capsules are the most common way to consume and enjoy Garcinia Cambogia benefits. They contain the concentrated powder from the fruit peel, to which the slimming properties are attributed.

The label on the package should state that it contains at least 50% hydroxycitric acid. If this information does not appear, its content is probably lower. The HCA FIT supplement contains 60% HCA extract.

The recommended daily amount would be between 1500 and 2000 mg. The capsules should be taken half an hour before meals, spread throughout the day, depending on the amount contained in each capsule.

In addition to taking Garcinia capsules, we recommend following these tips to promote effective, healthy weight loss without rebound effect:

  • Drink enough water throughout the day
  • Consume fresh vegetable foods every day, in their natural state or in the form of juices and smoothies
  • Always eat until you feel satiated, without overeating. It is important to chew well and enjoy the different flavors, in order to eat with all the senses
  • Avoid flour and refined sugars, and include some superfoods
  • Replace harmful fats (sausages, margarine, pastries, precooked foods) with healthy fats (avocados, nuts, ghee, coconut oil, etc.)
  • Eat light meals with enough time to digest before 9 p.m., the body needs to rest to regenerate and facilitate weight loss

Remember that, although Garcinia Cambogia benefits can help in many ways, its regular consumption should always be integrated into a healthy lifestyle to appreciate the results.

Additional weight loss diets

Nowadays, several diets are providing great results for a lot of people, among them:

Pineapple diet: as its name suggests, this diet is based on excessive consumption of pineapple, accompanied by low-calorie foods.

What do you get with this? The main thing is the elimination of liquids since pineapple is very depurative. On the other hand, you’ll provide your body with all the fiber, vitamins, and minerals that this fruit contains.

But be careful! If you decide to try it, remember that it is a “crash” diet and should not be done for more than seven days.

Alkaline diet: This diet is based on consuming high pH (alkaline) foods to detoxify the body.

When you abuse acidic foods, your body suffers from pathologies and ailments due to these low pH foods. Learn more about the alkaline diet here.

Ketogenic diet: The ketogenic or keto diet is one of the most popular diets today. Since it is also a “crash” diet, it is ideal for losing weight fast.

It consists of ingesting low amounts of carbohydrates to accelerate metabolism. Would you dare to try it? Learn more about the keto diet…
